Let the Holiday Festivities Begin!

Well my friends the holidays have snuck-up on us yet again. I always say I am going to shop, plan, and decorate for the holidays earlier next year but it just never happens. Could be the fact that as a wife, mom, and plus size model I am juggling numerous hats as it is but at this time of year a couple more hats seem to get added on. Believe me, I am good at juggling, but at this time of year things get a little crazy. For example, over a month ago I had received an invitation to my husbands annual work holiday party and somehow it got mixed up with the kids homework pile and ended up on the bottom. Thank God I was on one of my very few cleaning kicks and decided one day to purge the kids old homework and found it. Of course it was just days prior which puts me into a total panic since this is not an event we can miss and of course I have nothing fabulous to wear. With just days until the event I decided to jump online and check out my favorite “go-to” plus size designer Igigi by Yuliya Raquel for an amazing, elegant dress to wear to the event. You CANNOT go wrong with when you are in need of something gorgeous to wear. When I got to the site I was instantly overwhelmed by the variety of gorgeous plus size dresses they currently have available. I was torn between the classic Black  Garbo Gown  with its gorgeous plunging neckline and high slit, the Margarita Gown in Crimson with its gorgeous waterfall flounce, and the Nadine Jeweled Gown in Ruby  with its sexy yet discreet crossover cascading skirt and gorgeous removable bejeweled belt. It was a tough decision, but I decided to go with the Nadine Jeweled Gown in Ruby.  I did not want to be too overly sexy and felt some of my other choices felt that way with the higher slits etc. I knew I would be spending the evening rubbing elbows with parents, alumni, and faculty so I wanted to be comfortable. I also love the fact that the bejeweled belt is removable.  The dress has a completely different look when the belt is removed and for future parties/events I can use a variety of different plus size belts with it and change it up. My husband thought it was a good choice as well:)

Thankfully the dress arrived the day before the party and it fit me perfectly and by perfectly I mean like a glove. Seriously, I swear this dress was made for me! It hugged my curves in all the right places…but you know what, every dress that I have received from has done that and they have NEVER let me down.

The night of the party I was able to get my hair and makeup done by one of my favorite H/MUA’s and friend Brittany Sullivan. I brought a pic of how I wanted my hair done. I wanted it all pulled up so I could really show off the gorgeous neckline of the dress. Of course Britt totally rocked it out! I felt confident, beautiful, and had an amazing time and received probably the most compliments I have ever received in an Igigi dress. The party was fantastic, they had a Smile Booth set up for fun photos, the venue was decked out in gorgeous holiday decor with a rockin band The Ferocious Detours playing some of my favorite tunes I grew up with. The wine was flowing, hors d’oeuvres were d-lish, and dinner was of variety of yumminess from short ribs to sliders. I’m not even going to talk about dessert:)

Even though hubby and I did not partake on the dance floor, we had an incredible night filled with adult conversation and quality time away from the kiddos which never happens and was definitely needed. He truly loved this dress on me and made me fill like the most beautiful woman in the world:) He has a way of doing that! Sooooo…What do you think of the Nadine Jeweled Gown? Did I rock it or what?

As always a special thanks to the fabulous team at Igigi by Yuliya Raquel for making AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS GOWNS for us plus size gals. The quality and details put into their designs are like no other and her passion for transforming the worlds view of beauty  is incredible. Also, thank you to my friend H/MUA Brittany Sullivan for rockin my look out! You can like Britt on Facebook or visit her website and see more of her fabulous work.

Thinking of purchasing your next dress at Right now they are offering a Gift with Purchase of  a free Plush Pashmina Scarf on all orders over $150.00 now through 12/31/2012. Click here for details. VIP and Making History! ECI Presents “Haute Curves” during LA Fashion Week

Better late than never…right? So…. my post is unfortunately a little late in the game as I have been waiting for images from the photographers who worked the red carpet for the Haute Curves event, but still no luck:( So don’t mind all my phone pics.

Recently I had the opportunity to be part of history in the making by attending the first ever plus size fashion show during LA Fashion Week hosted by Elite Curves International. Haute Curves LA Fashion Week held October 13, 2012 at the LA Convention Center showcased independent designers and companies that cater to sizes 12 and above. When I saw the announcement come out via Facebook naming some designers that I have not yet seen or heard of before I knew that I had to attend. Plus, I knew all of my favorite LA based plus size fashionistas would be attending and it would be a night to get dressed up and celebrate our curves together.

I had to do this event right and go VIP…of course! With this being the first ever Haute Curves, I wanted to enjoy this event to the fullest. Now what to wear??? Of course, I reached out to one of my favorite designers all time Rachel Pally to dress me for the red carpet. She sent me one of the most amazing dresses from her White Label Fall Collection that fit my style to a T! Well, almost everything she designs is my style but that’s besides the point…this dress I felt was made for me. The design, cut, style, and super cool graffiti print are like no other.

After I received the dress I reached out to my sister-in-law Mandi Line who is an amazing stylist and dresses the adorable girls on the hit TV show Pretty Little Liars. Mandi hooked me up with a funky black leather Rebecca Minkoff clutch, gold pyramid stud earrings and bracelet by CC Skye, and a super cool gold and black sunburst cocktail ring by House of Harlow. After shopping with Mandi, I was seriously ready to rock the red carpet…. check it out.

The event was cool and quaint, hosted by none other than the lovely Chenese Lewis. I was thrilled to see so many familiar faces in the plus industry that I had not seen for awhile such as The Curvy Fashionista Marie Denee, Tulin Emre and Reah Norman of Plus Model Magazine, Curvy Girls creators Lisa & Laura Nelson, Queen Grace Collection Designer Adolfo Sanchez, Plus Model/Actress Rosie Mercado and more . Designers and companies such as 17 Sundays, Blacklisted Couture, Cult of California, Forever 21 and more came out with a bang and rocked the runway with a gorgeous range of models in a variety of shapes, sizes, and looks. Check out some of the images from the Haute Curves show here.

At intermission I took advantage of my VIP ticket and got my 1 complimentary cocktail which I chose a yummy Cranberry Vodka and made my way down to the vendor room to do a little shopping. As I entered I was pretty disappointed only to see a couple tables set up in the room.  I had brought some extra cash hoping to pick up some goodies from some of the new designers featured in show or something, but there wasn’t much to choose from unfortunately so I headed backstage to say hello to some of my gorgeous fellow model friends who were in the show and check out the goodies in my Haute Curves VIP swag bag.

After the show I hit the red carpet once again before entering the VIP Reception held in a separate hall adjacent to the show. There they offered light snacks, a cash bar, and a DJ rockin the night away and of course….I had to get my dance on for a hot second before I said my goodbyes.

I think for this event being held during LA Fashion Week I had high expectations and unfortunately was left a bit disappointed as a VIP ticket paying guest. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the fact that we had a plus size fashion show during LA Fashion Week but strongly feel that we need to step up or game when doing events like these in order for the fashion industry to truly be taking our industry seriously and accepting/including us in all aspects of Fashion Week in all areas. This is LA…. and I know that there are more LA based, plus friendly businesses out there who could have participated and showed their support for events like this. All in all I had a great time, spent the evening with some amazing people, and celebrated the plus size fashion industry/community which always is a PLUS!

I would love to hear your thoughts. Did you attend the show? What did you think? Who was your favorite designer to rock the runway?

Special thanks to Rachel Pally for dressing me for the event. You can follow Mandi on Twitter…be sure to let her know what you thought of my look;)

I’ve Got the Blues…Imperial Blue, Twilight Blue, Royal Blue

This month I was invited to a very special birthday celebration for an amazing friend of mine and fabulous Plus Size Fashion Stylist Reah Norman. The event was schedule to take place at the ever so yummy Rosa Mexicano on Sunset Blvd. I knew that some of the most fashionable women in Los Angeles would be attending, so the pressure was on to find the perfect dress. With so many designers transitioning into Fall and it still being super hot here in LA I have to tell you that it was a struggle to find something amazing that I would not sweat to death in and I definitely did not want to wear black. I knew that I wanted something bright and sexy to not only celebrate her special day but also to celebrate the end of summer. With the kids heading back to school and me starting my new job with Becca Etc Swimwear, this was going to be one of my last girls night out for awhile and I really wanted to look amazing. After searching numerous websites I came across the 2012 Fall Collection on and fell in love with all of the styles available for Fall that come in a variety of blue hues from Imperial Blue, Twilight Blue, and Royal Blue. I am a sucker for an amazing blue and it was tough to pick the right one for the event.

I decided to go with the Mara Dress in Imperial Blue because I felt that it had a little more of an edgier look than some of the other styles and I have been waiting to pair my black hematite chain and matching earrings with something amazing and this dress was it. When the dress arrived the day of the event, I literally was able to pull it out of the box and wear it immediately because of the incredible season-less jersey knit fabric it is made out of…the dress was wrinkle-free I couldn’t believe it! It felt so silky going on and hugged my curves in all the right places. I particularly loved the open boat neckline and was able to wear it a little bit off the shoulder for a more sexy look. I felt beautiful, sexy, and confident as always in Igigi.

As I arrived I wished the birthday girl Reah Norman a Happy Birthday and said my hello’s to all the gorgeous fashionistas that were there. I was surrounded by extremely talented, beautiful women…. from fashion bloggers, designers, to models, to celebrity hair and makeup artists. They all gave me tons of compliments on my dress and hands down the Imperial Blue was a complete hit. Not only did they love the vibrant blue hue but I was also told that the style/cut of the dress was perfect for my figure. The night was incredible, the venue was gorgeous, food and drinks were delicious, the DJ (DJ Gumsoul) had an amazing playlist, and I truly felt like a million dollars!

Thank you again Yuliya Raquel and the Igigi team for making me feel and look fantastic for another one of my events and for creating incredible designs for full figured women.

Be sure to check out more fabulous finds for Fall at and if you are in the LA area be sure to visit Rosa Mexicano on Sunset Blvd. to hear DJ Gumsoul on Friday and Saturdays from 8-11pm.

I Love Being a Leo…..Happy Birthday to ME!

Yes, I can truly say that I love being a Leo and if you know me you know that I am 100% a Leo woman in every way shape and form. This August it was all about me with continued birthday celebrations through the entire month thanks to my loving friends and family.  I was pampered with special dinners, girls night outs, a trip to Vegas with one of my favorite gal pals, and even a fabulous spa day. I have truly been in heaven and hate that it has to end.

One of my MOST special nights was celebrated with 3 of my closest girl friends at The Federal Bar in Noho. It was my first time going there and I didn’t know what to expect, nor did I have any idea what to wear. I was told to dress for dinner and dancing, so I knew I wanted something comfortable that I could move around in…. but it had to be SEXY!

I remembered getting an email recently from one of my favorite designers Anna Scholz announcing the launch of her White Label Collection which was featured on the fabulous model Whitney Thompson of ANTM and I was in LOVE with it all. The White Label is Anna’s premium collection featuring luxury fabrics, statement pieces, and designer cut and detail as stated on the site. I knew that I would find my birthday dress here. I decided to go with the Digital Jersey Gathered Panel Dress in Forest after seeing the picture below….amazing right?

Dress by Anna Scholz

With the gorgeous hues of Magenta, Purple, with splashes of Gold in the digital forest print this dress is truly like no other. Because of the fabulous colors and print I decided to go simple and accessorize with a chunky bangle, matching earrings, and my go-to gold Carlos heels. It  is sexy and curve-hugging but not super clingy, so it allowed me to get my dance on with my girls. It also had the perfect amount of drape down the front to camouflage my “problem area” after I enjoyed my red velvet surprise compliments of the Federal Bar. I felt super sexy and confident rockin my Anna Scholz White Label Digital Jersey Gathered Panel Dress while celebrating my 35th birthday!

Anna has an amazing way of making curvy women feel beautiful and confident with her bold prints, elegant draping, and impeccable fit. Most full figured women I notice will shy away from bright colors and bold prints, but I truly embrace them and hope you will too.Once you try on an Anna Scholz dress I guarantee you will be hooked. I know it can be tough sometimes ordering online especially all the way from the UK but from experience I know that when I order from her site I am getting exactly what is pictured, with exact details stated in their description, and quality merchandise.

Check out some of the latest designs by Anna Scholz and Happy Birthday to all the other fabulous Leo women out there!

The Samburu Project’s Forever 21 International Fashion Collection Launch Party

Recently I had an opportunity to attend an exclusive launch party at the L.A. Mart for a sneak peak at The Samburu Project’s Forever 21 international fashion collection. For Spring 2012, Forever 21 joined forces with The Samburu Project, a Santa Monica based non-profit organization which drills freshwater wells in Africa.

The event showcased a Forever 21 pop up shop featuring the unique, colorful Give to Love. Love to Give Samburu fashion collection (which of course I scored a few pieces) and an exhibition of photography called The Face of Water which was absolutely beautiful and highlighted their efforts to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in Northern Kenya. Every day many children die worldwide due to the lack of access to clean, safe drinking water. Through the projects drilling initiatives, The Samburu Project provides a simple solution to this extraordinary problem.

In deciding what to wear to the event I knew I wanted a dress that was bright, colorful for Spring, sexy, and classy to suit the event. So of course I visited my favorite website for plus size dresses and found the most amazing dress called the Renata Dress in Jade Green  As soon as I saw this dress I was in love. This dress said water to me with the beautiful color and had all the elements I was looking for…especially SEXY! The style of the dress is soooo me its ridiculous with the all over ruching heaven. The stretch jersey was super comfortable and hugged my curves all night long while mingling with the local supporters, celebrities, and Los Angeles social elite.

Needless-to-say the event was a complete success! Not only was I able to support a great cause, I was able to do so looking and feeling fabulous.
